Bringing
a Camp Together
Have you ever
wondered how this experience of VWC comes to take place? Not sure
of all the pieces that bring this event to fruition? The pages linked
on the left are intended to shed some light on the process and people
involved. While Camp happens through the energy and efforts of all
who attend for one magical week in August/September, there is a
lot of work done by a volunteer group of committed people throughout
the year.
In the words of
an experienced organizer:
|
"I
volunteered to help organize VWC quite a few years ago because
I felt I wanted to give back to the community a little of
what I had received from camp. What I didn't realize was how
much I would learn from the experience of working with my
fellow camp mates in a 'real' way outside of the magical week
of camp. Working in the consensus process is challenging and
is itself a magical process which has many ups and downs but
more importantly it brought me to consider many points of
view; it inspired me to be open-minded and in that space let
go of personal agendas.
Organizing is a lot of work and takes up a lot of time over
the year; in other words, it is a big commitment. But the
reward is seeing happy faces at camp, feeling the energy we
as organizers created during the year, take hold and flourish
in our week."
